Essential electrical safety checks underway at ng homes
Each year, we must complete essential electrical safety testing in our homes. These checks help us keep our tenants and residents safe by allowing us to examine the condition of the wiring within the home against safety standards, as the wiring can deteriorate or become damaged over time, which could result in electric shock, fire, or burns.
Tenants who are due their five-yearly safety checks are being sent appointment letters with a date and time for the electrical safety check.
Please allow access to your home once you receive your letter from ng homes or one of our appointed contractors.
We understand that life can be busy and that the visit may not be suitable for you and your family. If the time or date does not suit you, please get in touch with the appointed contractor or with ng homes to re-arrange an appointment which is suitable for you. Details on how to re-arrange your appointment will be included within your letter.
Lynne Cooper, Director of Housing Services, said: “These safety checks are vital for helping to keep our tenants safe. We’re asking tenants to work with us and provide access to allow us to protect them and their homes from fire and give them the peace of mind that their home remains safe".
These safety checks are legal requirements in place to keep you, your family, and your home safe and we must fulfil them. They also make up part of your responsibilities as stated within your tenancy agreement. Our staff will aim to do so while minimising any disruption to your home.
We may need to force access to your home if you do not allow access. This is a step we want to avoid – please keep an eye out for these letters and respond when you receive one.
Let’s work together on this matter. Thank you to everyone for their cooperation over the last year and let’s keep it going for the next year.
