Off to class: ng homes attends Careers Event at Springburn Academy
It was out of the office and off to school for ng homes staff as part of a recent Careers Day hosted by Springburn Academy.
3 October saw staff from ng homes joined other local employers as part of a carousel-style careers event aimed at new S1 pupils. Springburn Academy’s ‘Skills Framework’ – which places a focus on learning transferrable skills – served as a key theme on the day.
The Skills Framework encourages pupils to think about and develop transferable skills. Sessions held throughout the morning expanded on the framework and encouraged pupils to think about skills required for various roles, tasks, and sectors. Interactive activities helped students gain an understanding of how these skills support the modern workplace.
Staff from ng homes were on hand speaking with students, explaining what a Housing Association was (and does) as well as focusing on the different roles within ng homes.
ng homes’ Project Manager Greg Cann said: “These events are a great opportunity for the Association to get out and meet young people in the community. It’s a perfect opportunity to raise awareness of what the housing sector is and what it can offer people looking for a career. It’s also great fun to engage with schools around their perceptions of what we do!”
Developing the Young Workforce Coordinator for Springburn Academy Tracy Parker added: “ng homes did a fantastic job of creating an interactive session which incorporated Springburn Academy’s own Skills Framework which the event was centred around. As a local business they have created an awareness for the younger generation in their community. I think the young people will have a different perspective next time they see an ng homes van passing by the school.”
